What does the Town Council do?
Cricklade Town Council operates at the most local level of local government. Its responsibilities include:
· Managing the Town Council budget on a day-to-day basis to ensure 'best value' and to meet the requirements of the various regulatory bodies
· Providing information about local issues and events, tourism and reporting problems to district and county councils
· Communicating with residents via noticeboards, The Chronicle and Town Council website
· Maintaining the recreation grounds and open spaces, cemetery, St Sampson's and St Mary's churchyards and Fairview Fields
· Providing children's play equipment and projects for young people
· High Street enhancements and floral displays
· Assisting with the development of Cricklade Country Way, the National Cycle Way and the re-establishment of the canal and railway
· Considering planning applications and assessing their impact on the conservation area
· Reviewing major development plans
· Making recommendations on traffic issues affecting the town
The Town Council comprises of fifteen elected members who work for the town in a voluntary capacity.
The Members are supported by a small team of paid Officers, headed by the Town Clerk. The Officers help keep the Town Council running smoothly, the town clean and tidy and the buildings in good repair.
The Town Council conducts its main business through three committees, which meet on a regular cycle:
Policy and Resources deals with administration, civic duties, grants and donations, the information service and burials. This meets every eight weeks.
Planning, Conservation and Transport deals with planning consultation, the conservation area, traffic issues and traffic management. This meets every three weeks.
Community and Leisure is responsible for for play equipment, maintaining recreation grounds, open spaces, cemeteries, church grounds at St Sampson's and St Mary's, Fairview Fields, and floral displays in the High Street. This meets every four weeks.
The full Town Council meets every six weeks to deal with statutory business.
